Abstract

Object detection and recognition form the fundamental basis for numerous advanced computer vision applications, ranging from autonomous navigation systems to automated surveillance and robotic manipulation. While conventional object detection algorithms have achieved remarkable accuracy under controlled and optimal conditions, their performance often degrades precipitously when deployed in complex environments. These complex environments are typically characterized by severe weather conditions, suboptimal illumination, dense object occlusion, and chaotic background clutter. This paper introduces a comprehensive framework designed to significantly enhance the robustness of object detection algorithms operating under such adverse conditions. We propose a novel architecture that integrates a robust multi-scale feature extraction backbone with a dynamic spatial and channel attention mechanism, specifically engineered to suppress environmental noise while amplifying critical semantic features. Furthermore, our methodology incorporates a domain-adaptive training curriculum that bridges the distributional gap between pristine training datasets and degraded real-world inference scenarios. Extensive empirical evaluations are conducted across multiple challenging datasets, including corrupted variants of standard benchmarks and natively captured adverse-condition datasets. The experimental outcomes unequivocally demonstrate that the proposed algorithmic enhancements yield a substantial improvement in mean average precision compared to contemporary state-of-the-art baselines, particularly in scenarios involving low-light conditions and heavy atmospheric precipitation. By systematically addressing the vulnerabilities of existing convolutional and transformer-based architectures, this research provides a vital step toward deploying reliable and safe computer vision systems in unconstrained real-world settings.
